My PupBox Unboxing Experience
You’ve likely heard about PupBox since you’re reading this blog post.
This dog subscription box is geared toward puppies, although still offered for adult dogs.
They were discovered on Shark Tank and later bought by Petco (which are some interesting Pupbox facts mentioned in another article).
I decided to sign up in order to provide my readers with an up-close and personal look at this popular box.
Welcome to my PupBox Unboxing.
Just so you know, I may collect a small commission from the links below, but I only recommend products I find trustworthy.
Sign-up Process
Signing up was simple and quick and took only a few minutes.
You enter your dog’s name, birthday, sex, size, coat type, allergies, and any additional notes.
Then you choose your subscription plan whether 1, 3, 6, or 12 months.
Lastly, you enter your payment details, plus any coupon codes.

They allow payment by credit card and Paypal.I signed up for the monthly plan, which costs $39/month, but you save more with longer plans.
Shipping
PupBox states that your box should arrive within 5-10 business days after you receive a tracking notification.
I signed up on April 25, 2020 and it was shipped by UPS on April 27, 2020.
It was delivered on May 8, 2020, so met their estimated time frame.
They said to expect shipping delays with the pandemic, so it may have arrived earlier if not for the current situation.
Contents of PupBox Unboxing
Since my dogs are older, I received an adult box.
Their boxes contain 5-7 age appropriate items and a full training guide.
It was easy to open the box by cutting the tape at the bottom.
After that, all of the items were ready to be taken out.
In my PupBox, I received the following 6 items:
- Barkworthies American Pride 8 inch Beef Rib Dog Chew
- A paper insert with tips, tricks, and games
- Spunky Pup Alien Flex Plush Dog Toy- Mini Stixx
- Spunky Pup Alien Flex Mini Meteor (treat dispensing toy)
- Gnawsome Light and Squeak Ball
- PupBox Alien Dog Treat, Cheese and Bacon
If you have a puppy, you will get even more value out of PupBox.
This is because the contents are customized each month according to their changing needs.
You also receive training material from a celebrity dog trainer to help with your pup’s growing stages.
My Dog’s Experience with PupBox
It took a day or so, but my dogs are now playing with the toys, and they love the treats (although they will eat almost anything).
I think they are still figuring out the treat dispensing toy, but I may need to adjust it to make it easier.
I did create a Youtube video with my PupBox Unboxing, along with showing my dogs at the end playing with a few of the toys:
Cancellation
Although I do like PupBox, I did want to turn off auto-renewal since I ordered it mainly for the visitors to my site.
It took less than a few seconds to turn off auto-renewal with no issues.
Some customers have misunderstood the terms of cancellation, which has led to a few complaints (although most reviews are very positive).
While you can cancel anytime, you will still be billed and receive the remaining boxes under your subscription plan.
For example, if you order a 6-month plan and cancel at 3 months, you will still be billed for and receive the remaining 3 boxes.
Biggest Competitor
By far their biggest competitor is Barkbox who is the industry leader in dog subscription boxes. They’re now a publicly traded company and serve over 1 million dogs per month. While they don’t offer training material, they do cater their toys and treats to dogs of different sizes. By the way, I compare BarkBox vs PupBox in another article.
BarkBox prefers that their boxes are used for dogs 6 months or older, but they also offer an all-toys box that you can use until they turn 6 months.
Overall Impression
I was pleased with PupBox and it met all of my expectations.
My dog received some quality toys and I have no complaints.
If you have a puppy, you may get even more out of it with the training materials.
I did also write an article on whether PupBox is worth it if you’re still on the fence.
